Kathy Griffin Career Ending Pic of Trump

Comedienne Kathy Griffin may have just ended her already dying career when a picture

The picture that may have ended Kathy Griffin’s Career. Source: TMZ

was released of her holding a decapitated head of a man resembling President, Donald Trump. That’s right, she posted a picture that may have encouraged terrorists to pursue the idea of decapitating the President of the United States.

According to TMZ reports, Griffin posed for the picture during a photo shoot with famous photographer Tyler Shields.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ the Secret Service has launched an investigation into “the circumstances surrounding the photo shoot.” According to TMZ , they “first posted the pic, shot by famed photographer Tyler Shields and we’re told the Secret Service does not jump to conclusions that incendiary photos or writings are serious or in jest. They also will not automatically pass the photo off as art. They routinely investigate and that’s exactly what they’ll do in this case.”

Perhaps, this is the motivation behind why Griffin decided to release an apology.  The apology could also be as a result of the backlash from Griffin’s fans.

At this morning’s MetroActive staff meeting, it was suggested that Griffin intentionally posted what she knew would be a controversial picture to try and rejuvenate her career.  After all, Griffin has made a career by poking fun of others and their expense and her gain. The consensus at the meeting was that Griffin should not have done what she did, that it undermined the strength of the Presidency, invaded his personal rights and has affected his young son. Could you imagine a little boy seeing a replica of his father’s decapitated head?

Kathy Griffin May Have Decapitated Her Career
Kathy Griffin May Have Decapitated Her Career. Secret service is rumoured to be investigating the incident.

Regardless, Griffin may have left herself open to what she has been put out to others. I wonder what it will take for Griffin to truly understand and appreciate what she has done. Apologies come so easily from comedienne’s that continuously ridicule others for their own gain.

Do you think Kathy Griffin’s video apology is genuinely remorseful. Or do you think it is motivated by fear of financial and legal repercussions?

We are attempting to reach Kathy Griffin for an interview and to give her an opportunity to repair the damage to her own career.

Brent Merrill Rescues Metcap Employee From Threat and Escape Possible Abduction Attempt

A Metcap Property Manager found himself threatened by rent striking tenants yesterday near 135 Tyndall Avenue in the Parkdale neighbourhood. In a brave rescue mission, Brent Merrill, MetCap Living Management Inc., entered the hostile area in a pickup truck. The Property Manager was able to make his way outside the building to Tyndall Avenue, where he hopped into Merrill’s truck as aggressive tenants attempted to detain them.

According to the Toronto Star, Merrill stated “He hopped into my truck. There were protesters trying to chase him,” explaining that a man even jumped in front of his truck while he was moving. He continues, “We were moving the whole time. The vehicle never stopped . . . eventually he stepped to the side.”

Concerned for the safety of his employee, Merrill observes the obvious by saying, “This is just escalating to the point where we need to have some reason and my people shouldn’t be threatened. They are only doing their job.”

In a Toronto Star article “Parkdale Property CEO Nearly Hits Tenant Advocate With Truck” written by

The courage and bravery that Laforest has to attempt to stop a pickup truck is admirable…just not near normal people. Are the Canadian Armed Forces still looking for recruits to go into battle…perhaps someone to step in front of a jeep? Seriously, what the heck was Laforest thinking? Though, Laforest is the one mentioned because of his status as advocate, there were others shown in the video at first attempting to stop the pickup.

Let’s hope that the employee is not going to experience psychological damage or post traumatic stress disorder. An employee under such adverse environment should be paid extra. I can just imagine the personal injury and labour lawyers hitting the phones this morning.

Ontario has a labour act to protect employees from workplace dangers and abuse. Where does Kathleen Wynne stand on this issue of hard working individuals being threatened to the point they have to run for their life and be rescued.

Cudos to Emily Mathieu for a well-detailed article that presented enough information for level-minded individuals to see that there are two sides to this situation.

Remember: Sometimes who appear to be predators are actually the victims. Don’t let the media headlines decide for you what is right and what is wrong!

NOTE: This post is not written for accuracy, but to bring some perspective and rationality to a situation, in which both sides have rights. You are encouraged to do your own research, not to rely on any one source and to decide for yourself how much of the story is being controlled and manipulated by the activism of a group of people for their own personal and financial gain.

Camilita Nuttall: The Rockstar Behind Event of Champions®

There is a buzz over facebook, twitter and social networking websites and it has to do with Event of Champions® happening in Toronto from June 9 – 11, 2017. The event promises to deliver high-energy, mega-impact, real-world knowledge that is empowering, Inspiring and Immersive. It is the brainchild of Camilita Nuttall, a Serial Entrepreneur, CEO and Founder of Event of Champions®.

I had the opportunity to speak with Camilita and or conversation quickly expanded beyond international borders and touched upon what is about to happen around the world. Through her international network of contacts, she is aware and abreast of several evolutions. I was impressed with her awareness of matters related to the socio-economic condition surrounding the geo-political situation in Asia.

When asked about her inspiration, Camilita thought back to her childhood and shared a very touching story. As a child growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, her family fell upon difficult times. At the age of 13, Camilita’s father told her that they didn’t have the money to continue sending her to school.

Determined not to deprived of her chance in life, Carmilita and her mother spent months digging through rubbish at the public dump, looking for glass bottles. They would then put the bottles in bags and crush them so they could sell them back to the local glass company. They saved enough for her to continue going to school.

This was the beginning of a series of events, steps and accomplishments that has resulted in Camilita now being an international entrepreneur. Don’t miss your chance to meet Camilita yourself at the Event of Champions®.

As a leading Motivational Speaker and Sales Guru, Camilita has been a top sales person for not only 1, but 7 consecutive years in Europe where she engineered a major sales force in over 30 countries and created some of the biggest sales teams in that company’s history. Real Estate Potentially Targeted by Money Launderers

Real Estate Agents have been approached by scammers, opportunists, and unscrupulous characters from around the world with all sorts of suspect requests. Some of these requests are so unbelievable that you have to be brain dead to fall for them. Now there is concern that Real Estate Agents are at risk for money laundering schemes.

Though the concern isn’t new, on May 18, 2017, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board (FVREB, which covers North Delta, Surrey, White Rock, Langley Township, Langley City, Abbotsford and Mission) sent out a warning memo to its members. The very strongly worded memo warns of money laundering strategy that offshore investor clients may attempt.

Included in the memo:

“It has come to our attention that overseas clients may be asking realtors to allow money to be transferred to their personal accounts so that the Realtors can arrange a bank draft to give to the sellers/developers for their purchase,”

“It’s important everyone understands that this violates federal income tax laws, Fintrac [anti-money laundering] laws and the Real Estate Services Act. It is extremely important to ensure that any exchange of funds is legitimate, legal and ethical before members agree to participate.”

Using this tactic, a transaction could be used to launder money from illegal sources. However, according to FVREB president Gopal Sahota, there have been no reported cases of such an illegal transaction being completed or attempted and the letter was sent as a proactive approach. It was rumours that circulated in the industry, which led to the proactive decision to educate their members.

Cudos to Gopal Sahota and the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board for their proactive approach to maintaining professionalism, safety and security of real estate. A home is the largest purchase that the average Canadian will make in their lifetime. Canada prides itself as a leading jurisdiction in protecting the real estate transaction process and homeowner rights.

This reputation has helped attract investors from around the world. Anything activity that undermines this reputation affects us all.

Canada Offers Relief To Canadians Affected by Flooding

Government of Canada offers taxpayer relief to Canadians affected by flooding

The Canadian government, through the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) offers Canadians taxpayer relief when natural disasters, such as the recent flooding in areas of the Toronto Islands, Quebec, the National Capital Region occur. The goal is to help reduce the burden placed on taxpayers because of natural disasters.

In a press release through the Canada Revenue Agency, the Canadian government reminded Canadians that “The CRA understands that natural disasters may cause hardship for taxpayers whose primary concern during this time are their families, homes, and communities. These individuals, businesses, and first responders may find themselves unable to file or pay taxes on time. If so, the CRA encourages them to make a request for taxpayer relief. Taxpayers can make a request for taxpayer relief online, by using Form RC4288, Request for Taxpayer Relief, or by calling the CRA at 1-800-959-8281 for individual enquiries, and at 1-800-959-5525 for business enquiries. The CRA will consider these requests on a case-by-case basis. ”

In addition, the government reminds, “Taxpayers who are unable to physically access institutions they normally depend on are encouraged to register for the CRA’s secure online services. Through My Account, individuals can register for direct deposit and avoid interruptions to tax refund or benefit payments they may be expecting.”

“Form RC4288” is used to request cancelling or waiving penalties or interest associated with filing or paying of taxes as a result of natural disaster. To be clear the government does not offer relief in the form of reduced taxes owing.

Interest Penalty

According to the CRA, “If you have a balance owing for 2016, we charge compound daily interest starting May 1, 2017, on any unpaid amounts owing for 2016. This includes any balance owing if we reassess your return. In addition, we will charge you interest on the penalties starting the day after your return is due. The rate of interest we charge can change every three months. See Prescribed interest rates. If you have amounts owing from previous years, we will continue to charge compound daily interest on those amounts. Payments you make are first applied to amounts owing from previous years.”

Late-filing penalty

In addition, the CRA advises “If you owe tax for 2016 and do not file your return for 2016 on time, we will charge you a late-filing penalty. The penalty is 5% of your 2016 balance owing, plus 1% of your balance owing for each full month your return is late, to a maximum of 12 months. If we charged a late-filing penalty on your return for 2013, 2014, or 2015 your late-filing penalty for 2016 may be 10% of your 2016 balance owing, plus 2% of your 2016 balance owing for each full month your return is late, to a maximum of 20 months.”

It is best to file your taxes as early as you can, just in case of unexpected events or disasters.

Ontario Home Inspection Act 2017

The Ontario government has passed legislation to regulate the home inspection industry, which establishes qualifications for home inspectors. “The Home Inspection Act 2017” sets minimum standards for home inspection contracts, reports, disclosures and the performance of home inspections. With the new law, individuals performing home inspections must be licensed. Also, a written contract with the homeowner must be signed and a written report must be delivered after the inspection.

With bidding wars running full speed in the last few years, buyers have foregone home inspection clauses for fear of losing out on their desired home. Realtors have struggled with protecting their clients while getting them what they want amidst stiff competition. This legislation could help make things better, especially if pre-listing home-inspections are ordered by sellers and make available to potential buyers before presentation of offers.

To get a better understanding of this legislation, I spoke with Allen Spisak, a home inspector who I met in May, 2017 and who is well versed with the industry, its challenges and changes. Spisak explains what is happening in the home inspection industry in Ontario, Canada and with the implementation of the latest government legislation and regulation.

Listen to how he explains the timing and challenges with implementation the new legislation.

Non-Application of The Act

According to the Act it does not apply to everyone…”Subject to the regulations, this Act does not apply to a holder of a licence or certificate of practice under the Architects Act or a holder of a licence, limited licence, temporary licence, provisional licence or certificate of authorization under the Professional Engineers Act.”

Revoking of License

In reading through the legislation looking for consequences I came across:

“9 (1) The Lieutenant Governor in Council may, by regulation, revoke the designation of the administrative authority if the Lieutenant Governor in Council considers it advisable to do so in the public interest.”

I’m anxious to see how this will affect the home inspection reports.

You’ve been working hard for years now and want a change. But how can you do something different? What if you want to work from home, http://metroactive.org/wordpress/wp-admin/edit.phpor want to go out on your own? These series of stories explain how to hit the reset button on your work.

Financial tips for first-time freelancers

Thinking of going the do-it-yourself route? Here’s what you need to know.

1. Don’t ditch the benefits

You may be eligible for medical, dental and life/disability insurance through a professional association’s insurance partners or a spouse/partner’s employer.

2. Set up a contingency fund

Your cash flow will likely be more unpredictable so build a financial cushion to fall back on during any slow periods – consider a Tax-Free Savings Account.

3. Pay the taxman

Put aside a portion of your earnings to pay income tax and GST (if applicable) – you may pay annually in the first year then move to quarterly instalments if you exceed your province’s net tax owing threshold.

4. Deductible expenses

Be sure to keep all business expense receipts – if you’re working from home, the portion of your household expenses related to the workspace may be deductible from your business income for tax purposes.

5. Lifestyle

Be prepared to adjust your spending habits (e.g., vacations may have to wait until your business is established), especially during the critical start-up period.

The upside to being downsized

How to get on the fast track to “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”

Anne had mixed feelings as she stared at a box containing the contents of her office, representing nearly a decade of her career. She had anticipated her role would be eliminated and thought she was emotionally prepared but found herself nonetheless stunned… and inspired. This was the push she needed to finally start her own business. “It’s a big leap!” exclaimed Anne. “I think if someone offered me a job at that moment, I would have jumped on it, but I’m glad that didn’t happen.”

Some people, like Anne, see change coming, but many find themselves in similar situations without warning. If you’re not prepared, a loss of income may mean taking on more debt or depleting your retirement savings.

Like many Canadians, Anne traded her daily commute for a home-based business. The freedom to set her own hours and be her own boss was a long-time dream. Anne couldn’t control the timing of her employer’s downsizing but it worked out well. She had saved enough money to ease the financial stress while focusing on starting her business.

Those savings, along with severance pay and employment insurance (EI) benefits, kept her financially afloat until it was profitable. Through the federal government-funded Self Employment (SE) program, Anne received EI benefits in addition to income generated by her start-up, plus business skills training (eligibility requirements for the SE program may differ by province).

Some people, like Anne, see change coming, but many find themselves in similar situations without warning. If you’re not prepared, a loss of income may mean taking on more debt or depleting your retirement savings. Both scenarios can have long-term consequences.

Is it time to ditch the suit and commute?

Here’s what a survey of more than 650 working parents revealed about flexible work, like working from home, having a flexible schedule or working part-time:

90%: Absolutely certain or very confident that a job with work flexibility would decrease stress levels

89%: Having a job with work flexibility would help them be a more attentive spouse/partner/ significant other

84%: Children are the reason for wanting a job with flexible options

52%: Flexible work options would increase the amount of time for date nights

9%: Current work-life balance is great

Three proactive bounce-back tips

The key to quickly moving on after a job loss is proactive planning. It may actually be the best thing that’s happened to your career. “After decades of rush-hour traffic and office politics, I was ready for a change – I just couldn’t initiate the first step,” said Anne, adding that her only regret is not starting her business sooner.

1. Consider your options now

Would you retire early, go back to school, look for another job or maybe start a business?

2. Research government programs

Determining your next step may be easier if you qualify for educational or financial assistance.

3. Put money aside

Even if you never use it to replace income, an emergency reserve will help you more easily manage any major life change.
