During the 18th Annual Screen Actor Guild Awards ceremony behind the scenes event at The Shrine Auditorium Champagne Taittinger is the Champagne of choice.

The results are in after months and weeks of voting, Hollywood’s actors finally name their picks for the best performances in the films and TV shows of 2011 at the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

The SAG honors, which are closely watched in the race for Oscars, follow the Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice given by media watchers, as well as acknowledgements from the U.S. Producers Guild and Directors Guild, which represent their respective professional groups in industry matters.

The SAG Awards are a key barometer of which films and actors have a good chance at winning Oscars, the world’s top film honors given on February 26 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, because performers make up the largest voting branch of the academy.

The SAG Awards air on U.S. TV on Sunday night from Los Angeles on cable networks TNT and TBS, and on Global Television in Canada.

Wine Trends To Watch in 2012 – Part 1

As we enter 2012 with unsteady markets, it seems appropriate to make a guess at what the wine trends will be and what wines we should be looking for.  After some initial research, I have spotted some common wine trends:

1.      Local Wines – The movement to reduce carbon emissions and consume locally grown products has extended to the wine industry in the past few years and this will continue to grow.

2.      Less is More – New world wines with overripe grapes and high alcohol contents have lost their popularity and will be replaced by classic, elegant wines with less alcohol levels (below 13 or 14%). This style marks the return to the tradition of flavorful, balanced wines. There will also be less wood flavors with more clear fruit forward wines.

3.      Retailers Resurgent – Employees have never been more knowledgeable and have become less snobby.  There will be more in-store tastings with a culture of service becoming more important.

4.      Burgundy is the New Bordeaux – As prices for Bordeaux continue to rise, more wine lovers are choosing wines from Burgundy. This is evidenced at some recent New York and Hong Kong wine auctions.

Bill 168 and Accessibility Ontario…..

Are you ready for when the ministry knocks on your door and starts an audit? I bet your not and your going to get a nice fine as well as the company. This can run upwards of over $50 thousand! This can potentially destroy a company, if not close it down. This includes a company that has only ONE person. It seems that people are not fully aware of what the government is doing and what these new legislation changes are and how they effect them.
We are in contact with the government in order to get the FACTS and not read this on the internet or guess what will happen. We are also aware of how they are going to perform the audit and what to expect and how to make sure you are in compliance and will pass with a great report.
Call The Staff Room today and we will arrange to meet you and go over everything and explain this properly to you. These are two very serious matters and are currently in place NOW.
Let us help you……1-888-716-7791 or email info@the-staffroom.com
thank you and we look forward to working with you!

Make 2012 the Year of Barter

Want to trade your business consulting for tax advice? Some marketing know-how for web development?

If you’re a savvy entrepreneur or a small business owner looking to conserve cash, you should give bartering a try! Internet-based swapping is quickly growing in popularity among consumers and businesses in Canada. Open yourself up to barter and create new business opportunities for yourself by converting your unused resources into useful ones. If your business has empty appointment slots, vacant space or a surplus inventory, swapping can turn these things into viable commodities while promoting your products and services. Just like cash transactions, business barter transactions are taxable in Canada.

Bartering is not just for business. As an individual, you can save money, recycle and meet new people by swapping. Unused gift cards, DVDs you have watched countless times or electronic gadgets are all swap-worthy. You can even offer your photography skills or rent your cottage on barter.

Need more reasons to swap your professional goods and services or your personal talents? Check out this fantastic article on 12 Reasons to Swap More in 2012 by Swapsity, a Toronto-based swapping community. To get started with swapping, join their community for free and come out to one of their swap events.

Happy swapping, everyone!

3 Reasons to attend Seminars

Personal  Development  is billion dollar industry.  For some of you that may be surprising industry for the entrepreneurs  reading that you may be very excited! (see reason at the end)

Being on your journey of going to school and learn various subject has been continous seminar, at  the end we get our achievement on a piece of paper  (which we should be proud of) and then we decide we don’t need to learn anymore. We may go to the  book store and pick up a book and on title that may interest us and then put it on the bookshelf and don’t but principles into action!

To continue develop and grow requires commitment and confidence to make it a successful habit of success. Many great leaders from the present and past have shared great quotes that  insights of  essence of  their success. Movies and documentaries have been made on the topic in recent years, The secret , Pass it on! to name of few.

1st Association

As you go out and meet entrepreneurs and business leaders, you will begin to develop your own network of professionals in difference industries. Many of these people will become lifelong friends, other may become partners in business ventures, and a few will become important mentors and leaders from who you will learn invaluable lesson.

“It’s the glue that holds everything together”

Associating with success is the ingredient gives you insights into the mindset of success. It can be short or long conversation you may share. Ability to ask multiple people questions on various topics at the same place. You are all on the journey of success using the principles that you learn, do and apply on daily basis. Through association your are verify that you are doing certain things correctly and other areas you may need more education.

2ndEngage

Ability to engage and ask questions is a key factor in getting the right information for the correct source. My mentors always encourage asking questions at seminar and events. Your question may be starting a discussion that may lead the participants into a great momentum into the event and make a better impact for all.

“Learn, Do and Apply”

The ability to learn is the first important principle in the process of become better in any activity, from becoming a better leader, speaker or mentor. Taking that information and doing something with it will yield the results of satisfaction or failure. Learning the lessons why you failed in a seminar environment is a “safe area” rather than doing it in a professional environment where you may not get the lesson and possible embarrassment.

3rd  Action

Being in this environment creates great synergy with the group and will allow you to start momentum to achieve the desired result.

Accountability is strategic way to make sure you keep on track with your progress on a weekly basis. Working with someone who specifically will keep you accountable towards this will keep you moving forward. Life issues will get in the way, the goal of your partner is to remind you and give you laser-focused to getting the result.

Reminders are going to be important. You have to decide which the best way to make this program work is. Is going to be by weekly phone call? Daily text messages?  or email communications? This has to fit for both of you for it to work.

Persistence toward your goal will yield the result. Being in a room with motivated individuals who want to achieve their results will be fuel that will be crucial to  your success.  You individual persistence will be important for the team to succeed.

Moral  of the story

Don’t  you want a piece of that billion dollar industry?  Invest in yourself and become the leader that shares the value and creates wealth you deserve.

Product Sampling Gets New Business

Product sampling reaches 70 million American and 9 million Canadian consumers every quarter. According to a “Product Sampling Study” conducted by Arbitron and Edison Media Research, one-third of customers who sample a product, will buy the sampled product in the same shopping trip. In addition, 58% of those surveyed reported they would buy the product again.

In the study, consumers sampling the product were grouped into three categories: Acquisitions (those new to the sampled product); Conversions (those who had heard of the product but had never bought it); and Retentions (those who had previously purchased the product). The results revealed that 85% of Retentions and 60% of Conversations said they would purchase the sampled product in the future. Importantly, 47% of Acquisitions said they would purchase the product in the future.

Other findings:

– 35% claimed they purchased the sampled product on the same day: 26% of Acquisitions bought the product right away, as did 19% of Conversions and 31% of Retentions.
– 24% of those surveyed claimed that a sampled product had specifically replaced an item that they had planned to buy: 20% of Acquisitions were planning to make the switch, as were 33% of Conversions and 18% of Retentions.

This translates into an immediate and long-reaching impact on consumers with a high return-on-investment for the marketing and sales budget. The study shows that a sampling approach is both effective in making new customers aware of products, while establishing a better position with those consumers who have considered the product before.

MetroActive, a business organization based out of Toronto, Canada with over 13,500 members is fully aware of the power of sampling. The organization allows companies to sample their products and services to its members, mostly corporate executives, business owners, entrepreneurs and other business professionals through its “Member Offer Program”. These highly sought after consumers have the highest disposable incomes and an appetite to spend their money. For only $25 a month companies can offer samples and discounts on their products and services to the MetroActive members as part of the membership package. For details visit http://metroactive.org/wordpress/member-offer-program/

About the study: Arbitron and Edison Media Research conducted a national telephone survey from January 18 to February 15, 2008. 1,857 respondents, ages 12 and older, were selected at random from Arbitron’s 2007 fall diarykeepers. In geographic areas where Arbitron diarykeepers were not available (representing 8% of the population), a supplemental sample was interviewed through random selection.
