3 Ways to Maximize Your Network Relationships

One door closes, but two other doors open. That’s how the saying goes; however, often, when networking, it may feel like many doors are being closed and few are opening. By using a few key strategies, you can actively ensure that so many doors are opening that you are constantly introduced to new opportunities.

By maximizing your communication with potential clients and target markets, you will open several doors and in so doing, build greater opportunities for your business and for those on your network.

1. Social Networks

LinkedIn is a great website! You can create a professional profile and take advantage of strategic features. Three that I recommend are as follows:

1.      Get your profile to 100% as quickly as you can. There is a bar on the top left which indicates how close you are. Things such as adding your current status, adding previous employers, etc. will get you closer, faster.

2.      Continually connect with and add people to your network. If you are out networking, shaking hands and meeting new people, you are starting the momentum to growing your connections and inviting professionals to your LinkedIn account.

3.      Get recommendations from friends and previous employers. This will add credibility to your profile and add interest for your growing connections.

2. Telephone

As you meet new people and attend various events, it important to keep the connection moving forward. You can do this, for example, by placing a simple phone call and saying something such as, “Hi John, this is Jim Pagiamtzis. We met at the International networking show last week. So I recall you said you had worked in the insurance industry…”

Through this simple conversation, you did a few things including reminding him where you met and remembering what business he was in. You are also letting him know that the connection was important to you. From here you could talk about his industry and make recommendations that could assist him, such as ideas to increase his referrals.

You can touch base again and again, making a similar call, and each time solidify your ongoing relationship with the contact.

3. Email

Email is an effective communication tool for basic communication, but it can also be an effective tool for creating interest and keeping people updated.

The key is creating pro-active emails. You can discuss relevant articles you’ve read, industry news, or use the tool as a means of recognizing achievements by people in your network.

Remember it’s not only about you, but the success of everyone in your network.

Jim Pagiamtzis is a published author, writer and entrepreneur who has written for the Toronto Public Library and spoken at various venues such as universities, Enterprise Toronto and Initiative TO. Popular topics include How to become a Networking Success and How to attract Mentors in Business Life and Achieve Success. He can be reached via email at payamgis@gmail.com.

Copper Mountain Project Unaffected By Japan Earth Quake

Vancouver, British Columbia – March 17, 2011 – Copper Mountain Mining Corporation (TSX: CUM) (the “Company” or “Copper Mountain”) announces that after fielding a number of calls from the investment community, the Company thought it would be prudent to reassure investors that the weeks recent earth quake in Japan has not impacted the Company’s Copper Mountain Project.  All major equipment is on site and being assembled and is on schedule.  Likewise, the Company believes that the Company’s plans for delivery of copper concentrate commencing this summer remain unaffected.

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (MMC) announced on March 11, 2011 that they have suspended operations at its Onahama copper smelter because of the terrible damage by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as the damages to the infrastructures and logistics for the smelter.  MMC is currently evaluating the situation and yet to  have an estimate of when the Onahama copper smelter will resume its operation. MMC operates three copper smelters, two in Japan, Onahama (subsidiary of MMC) with annual copper cathode production capacity of 258,000 tons and Naoshima with capacity of 225,000 tons, and the PT smelting (subsidiary of MMC) in Indonesia with 300,000 tons. MMC has contracted to purchase 100% of the copper concentrate produced by the Copper Mountain Project. In accordance with the contracts, MMC will implement necessary actions to fulfill its obligations in good faith. MMC’s commitment to the Project is unchanged.

According to the “International Copper Study Group,” Global smelting capacity will expand by 14 percent to 20.68 million tons by 2014, while mining capacity will only reach 18.98 million tons.  According to an article by Reuters on Mar 11, 2011 they reported that Japan was expected to produce 1.6 million tonnes of refined copper in 2011, about 7.6 % of world output. Currently there is excess smelter capacity, the majority of which is in China as the country continues to feed its need for raw materials and refined copper in particular. The Copper Mountain concentrate is very clean and an acceptable concentrate at most smelters.

Construction work on the Company’s Copper Mountain Project continues to proceed on schedule and as planned.  The overall schedule for the project remains unchanged with construction expected to be completed by the end of April 2011, commissioning of equipment is scheduled to occur during May 2011, and full production scheduled to be achieved by the end of June 2011.  Preproduction mining activities are well underway and the Company’s new mining fleet is operating as expected.   Commissioning of the primary crusher, ore stockpile recovery system and pebble crusher is now underway, while installation of the grinding mills is proceeding and are expected to be ready for testing by the end of April.  Mechanical installation in the concentrator is well advanced with the bulk of construction activities directed at piping and electrical activities.

The project currently has 557 workers on site, of which 180 are Copper Mountain personnel and the rest associated with the construction activities.  At full production, the project will employ 271 personnel.

 About Copper Mountain Mining Corporation:
Copper Mountain is a Canadian resource company managed by an experienced team of professionals with a solid track record of exploration and development success.  The Company’s shares trade on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “CUM”.  Copper Mountain owns 75% and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation owns 25% of the Copper Mountain Project.  The 18,000 acre mine site is located 20 km south of the town of Princeton in southern British Columbia.  The Copper Mountain Project has a current resource of approximately 5 billion pounds of copper, the Copper Mountain Project is fully financed ($438M) and in construction and on schedule for the mine to produce approximately 100 million pounds of copper per year by mid 2011. 5th Annual Hispanic Awards launched at International Arts Premiere

5th Annual Hispanic Awards launched at International Arts Premiere.  Nominations to be declared open in Quebec.

Toronto, March 10, 2011 – The fifth annual edition of the national awards program “10 most influential Hispanic Canadians” was launched tonight during the Canadian premiere of Luisa Fernanda at the St. Lawrence Centre of the Arts. Presented by the Toronto Operetta Theatre, Luisa Fernanda is an internationally-acclaimed zarzuela featuring Mexican tenor Edgar Ernesto Ramírez, Colombian soprano Margie Bernal, and Puerto-Rican born Guillermo Silva-Marin. Two Canadian sopranos, Miriam Khalil and Michele Bogdanowicz, also performed in the zarzuela under the musical direction of José Hernández. More than four hundred people attended the premiere. Two more functions are scheduled for March 11 and 13.

“Bringing the zarzuela Maria Fernández to Canada is an important achievement for this country’s artistic community. It is a fitting occasion to launch the fifth annual ’10 most Influential Hispanic Canadians’, a program which recognizes outstanding contributions by Hispanics in the arts, community leadership, business, law, research, education and politics. These awards are now in their fifth year, a milestone for the Hispanic community” said Henry Ingram, Director of the Concerts Division at Dean Artists Management, which supported the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda. Silva-Marin, the only Hispanic in a leadership role in Canada’s opera world – was recognized as one the ten most influential Hispanic Canadians in 2008.

Awards organizer and Toronto real estate agent Mauricio Ospina, will be declaring nominations open during a business seminar in Quebec this June. Quebec province is Canada’s second most populous province and home to close to 200,000 Canadians of Hispanic origin. “Hispanics from across Canada are leaving their mark in every sphere of society,” Ospina said. “We’ve had winners from six provinces including two from Quebec. I look forward to declaring this year’s nominations open in Quebec in June and to the awards ceremony in November.”

The “10 most” is the only national Hispanic annual awards program which celebrates the achievements of Hispanic Canadians, a group that is the force behind Canada’s Creative Class. The forty past winners come from Quebec, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Ontario and represent thirteen countries: Peru, Mexico, El Salvador, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Spain, Panama, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Cuba and Ecuador. The program is organized by the Canadian Hispanic Business Association (CHBA). Judges include past winners, executives and journalists from the Globe & Mail, Toronto Star, Canadian Business, CBC and FOCAL.

The event, which has received national and international coverage, offers limited sponsorship opportunities. Hispanic and mainstream media outlets, and community associations across Canada are invited to partner. The International Language School of Canada, ILAC, is the first official awards sponsor with another four spots open.

Last spring, Prime Minister Stephen Harper invited a delegation of “10 Most” award winners to Parliament Hill discuss issues of importance of the community. In 2006, Spanish became the third most widely spoken language in Canada and earned the title of Canada’s most widely-spoken non-official language. According to a 2008 Statistics Canada study, there are three quarter million Hispanics in Canada. The study also found that Hispanics are five years younger and more likely to be university educated than other Canadians. Most live in the GTA and more than 70 per cent arrived in the last 25 years.

National promotion opportunity

Please consider this opportunity to be one of our six sponsors for the 5th “10 most influential Hispanic Canadians” national awards program. The event takes place on Tuesday, November 15 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The keynote is an international figure to be announced soon. Last May, the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper met with past winners and program organizers. Winners to date come from six provinces (ON, QC, MB, SK, NS, BC), making this the only national Hispanic awards program that will be launched in Quebec. Attendees include winners, diplomatic corps, media, community leaders and executives. With a small investment that starts at $2,000, your organization earns national good-will and promotion with benefits that include:

– National media promotion by including a quote from your company in the official press release 300,000 media partner readers, listeners and web surfers (ON, QC, BC, AB)
– Promotion in Quebec: – 200 attendees attending the official launch in Montreal (June 2010)
— Promotion with the 10,000 subscribers to HispanicBusiness.ca (the largest Hispanic database) plus the 400 attendees including Canadian and Hispanic diplomats, executives and media
– Opportunity to announce five of this year’s winners
– And more.!
