{"id":14378,"date":"2011-08-09T19:54:59","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T00:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/metroactive.org\/wordpress\/blog\/the-power-of-attention\/"},"modified":"2011-08-09T19:54:59","modified_gmt":"2011-08-10T00:54:59","slug":"the-power-of-attention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/metroactive.org\/wordpress\/2011\/08\/09\/the-power-of-attention\/","title":{"rendered":"The Power Of Attention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is much discussion lately about the Power of Intention.\u00a0 However, there is a sister concept that has not been mentioned, yet is more powerful and that is the Power of Attention.<\/p>\n<p>After years of working in the personal development field and coaching others in their personal growth I&#8217;ve refined my discovery of the Power of Attention.\u00a0 Well, I&#8217;d like to take credit for it, but really I first learned about it well I don&#8217;t know &#8211; when I started in Kindergarten.\u00a0 It works something like this, &#8220;where you put your attention, things will happen&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years I&#8217;ve seen this concept appear in various forms and in various areas.\u00a0 For example, have you ever noticed how when you start thinking about something you see it everywhere?\u00a0 When you think about buying a certain car, suddenly you notice it everywhere.\u00a0 Or when you get a parking ticket and you start noticing parking bees everywhere.\u00a0 This also exists in the scientific world in that what scientist look for they find.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like they see thousands of things, but the only ones that register are the ones that they think about.\u00a0 The mind somehow subconsciously filters all the non-attention elements.<\/p>\n<p>There are many studies that look at why people see some things, yet don&#8217;t notice others.\u00a0 It reminds me of when my cousin visited from Italy and we decided to drive to New York.\u00a0 We were walking on the side walk in a very busy street full of concrete and high buildings and all kinds of hustle and bustle.\u00a0Gianfranco turns to me and says (in Italian of course),\u00a0&#8217;Look &#8211; what is that&#8217;.\u00a0 And he walked me over to a tree\u00a0in a concrete planter about 20 feet away.\u00a0 He reached up and slightly bent a small branch to\u00a0look at somekind of insect that was\u00a0cacooning on\u00a0a leaf.\u00a0 Okay, we&#8217;re in the middle of the concrete jungle full of sounds, traffic and people and he notices this insect?\u00a0 Hmmmmm.\u00a0 I thought about it a lot and wondered why he would notice that.\u00a0 Then I realized that nature is where he grew up and where he puts his attention, therefore it is what registers with him.\u00a0 Another man may have noticed how dirty the sidewalk\u00a0(a janitor)\u00a0or how\u00a0slow the traffic was moving (a cab driver).<\/p>\n<p>As in all\u00a0knowledge is power.\u00a0 So, I ask how can this knowledge be used?\u00a0 Let&#8217;s see &#8211; well if you where you put your attention determines that which you consciously notice.\u00a0 And what you notice is what is in your mind.\u00a0 And what you hold in your mind you create into reality.\u00a0 Then, it is logical to conclude that where you decide to put your attention will create your environment conducive to that which is the focus of your attention.\u00a0 Hence, criminals attract crime, lovers attract love, workers attract work, etc.\u00a0 That would also explain why as adults we are often a reflection of the items that caught our attention as children.\u00a0 Once that bolder starts to roll, it&#8217;s difficult to change it&#8217;s direction you know.<\/p>\n<p>So, where are you putting your attention?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/baldominaudo\/NWqy\/~4\/mXS7CUrjRZc\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is much discussion lately about the Power of Intention.\u00a0 However, there is a sister concept that has not been mentioned, yet is more powerful and that is the Power of Attention.
