Could Amazon be Spreading the Coronavirus?

Some MetroActive members ares concerned after findings were released from recent study on the coronavirus from China now labelled ” COVID-19″.

According to Dr. Charles Chiu, an infectious disease professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and director of the USCF-Abbott Viral Diagnostics and Discovery Center,

Based on the current available data, I would primarily rely on the data from SARS coronavirus, which is the closest relative to the novel coronavirus — with 80% sequence similarity — among the coronaviruses tested. For SARS coronavirus, the range of persistence on surfaces was less than five minutes to nine days.”

If the COVID-19 can survive on surfaces for up to nine days and if Amazon is shipping most of their products out of China, then is it possible that consumers in different countries are getting something extra with their purchase? To answer this, one would need to have a better understanding not just of the COVID-9, but also of Amazon’s logistics, timing and flow.

Medical experts in different countries are unable to find a direct of some infections to China. But, they’re looking at person-to-person transmission. Have any of them looked into whether any of these people have received shipments from China through companies like Amazon? This could potentially lead to some lawsuits if consumers are dying.

Fortunately, Amazon has taken action to protect its American employees. But, it a search of the internet has not found any steps taken to address the above potential scenario. Perhaps the above scenario is not a valid one, or perhaps Amazon has thought about it yet. Nonetheless, it might explain some presumed non-connected cases of the COVID-19.

Realistically, how probable is this?…. a question to be addressed by the medical professionals. I just hope someone has brought the possibility to their attention.

Regardless, I doubt whether people will stop buying through Amazon. Given the choice of going to a store or buying through Amazon during this outbreak, what do you choose?
