GCEngineers & The Inventors College

GCEngineers has gone through a major update in which embodies the new “Do it Your Self Inventors Course”. Through the hard work put in by the team of programmers, officials, and marketers GCE has taken a path into business with the Inventor’s College.

The Inventors course has been offered previously to approximately 100 people. This number includes students, professionals, engineers, teachers, tinkerers, and university & college students. It has proven to work in a way where the invention created can be exposed to the market in a very precise manner. The course also offers documents as to how to create your invention, how to market your idea, what documents to sign, the knowledge you need in 2011 to succeed with what you’re creating, and patent information.  Proven to work in Canada and the leading institute in gathering inventor’s under one roof, the Inventors College has grown to be a sustainable institute that provides the best for inventors. “The Great Canadian Inventions Show” is a show that is organized by the Inventors College in which they bring members that have taken the course and started their inventions. They then show case what they have invented to companies and business individuals that are interested in new business ventures. This show occurs once a year in different areas to allow the vast of inventors ease of access. Multiple organizations and business professionals attend this show and view what’s being created today.

GCEngineers has improved its sustainability by improving the network itself. This is provided by the expansion of bandwidth, faster loading of applications, and more precise features for the engineers of tomorrow. The team of programmers has also expanded to encompass two new freshmen from George Brown College. With the help of the community and the Inventors College, GCEngineers has proven its presence in the Colleges in Canada.  GCEngineers offers the Course online to help you get started on the road to inventions. Along with offering the course online, GCEngineers gives you the opportunity to access our free online directory of PDFs and engineering books. The idea of expansion is quickly growing within the team of GCE officials as GCEngineers is opening up an office in the Middle East where Engineers are needed. The Emirates is a place where engineers from all around the world are located.

President’s Message For January 2011

MetroActive President’s message in January Ezine that will recommend the event for those looking for an MBA education as part of a message addressing the shift in international business consciousness and tying in ‘The Banker Who Saved His Soul’ for additional credibility

It is the beginning of a new year and everyone has just about decided on their year’s resolutions and goals.  Now it is time to do some planning.

Among the most common goals are for a better job, more successful career, healthier relationships, better home, improved exercise and health.  It is not unusual to think about going back to school and re-inforce your education for better opportunities.  For the MetroActive members that don’t already have a Masters In Business Administration (MBA), the most popular educational program being considered is the MBA.  In the last decade their has been increased focused on international MBAs.

As President of the International Business Club during my time at the Schulich School of Business I had put quite a bit of effort in advocating the benefits of an international MBA, which was launched at the school several years later.  Today, Schulich’s International MBA (IMBA) is among the most respected in the world.  Since I didn’t have the option at the time to study such a program, I gained my international business wisdom through on the job training and working on projects in different countries.

The world today is a lot different than it was for the previous few generations.  With the significant increase in international business, trade and migration cultural dynamics have changed and so has the need for business professionals trained to deal with the situation.  If you doubt this, take a look at Toronto, a city in which half of its population was born outside Canada, migrating from mostly China, India and Latin America.  The challenge arises in that the culture and standards in those countries are different than in Canada.  Things that could land you in jail in Canada are an every day way of life in those countries.  How do you deal with that in a corporation that is domociled in Canada, but has to operate in other countries?  Even for local companies that hire new Canadians from these countries, how do you deal with individuals that think it is okay to do things that the rest of Canada has accepted as being unethical or even illegal?

This is the reality of the world today and with this reality comes a greater demand for the right solutions to enable your success as a business professional.  These solutions require a new paradigm, a new way of thinking and approach on life.  To help you see how your own paradigm may be determining how you see the world, your approach to life and your future we’ve created a 1 minute video on the MetroActiveTV channel on youtube, which we call The Paradigm of Balance.

With this in mind, our selection committee has found it appropriate to put the Member Spotlight on one of our most successful members, Nunzio Quacquarelli, Managing Director of QS Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd. (QS).  I’m sure you’ll be impressed with Mr. Quacquarelli’s top notch education, experience and accomplishments.  Check out his profile in our spotlight section (under the news tab).

QS is an international firm that organizes a series of MBA tours in major cities around the world.  These tours bring together experts and representatives from various MBA schools to meet with individuals looking at returning to school to obtain their MBA.  They can help answer questions like which school to attend, which program and what the best strategy is to position yourself for success in your career goals.

The MBA Fair is coming to Toronto on Saturday, February 26, 2011 (2pm-6pm, registration opens at noon) at the Fairmont Royal York, 100 Front Street West.  Admission is only $5.

For those of you that are considering upgrading your education or looking for a career change, I highly recommend this as one of the most important events you can attent to get you a broad and deep look into the MBA option.

President’s Message For December, 2010

December President’s Message

As you can see we continue to make changes at MetroActive. In September we re-launched our monthly Ezine. In October we launched the Singles Movie Night Experience. In November we launched MetroActiveTV on YouTube.  This month we officially launch our new website.  The MetroActive website will now have new content daily and is interactive allowing you to post comments. And there are more functions coming in January.

It’ll take us a few weeks before we have all the content converted and details worked out, but the website is functional now. We are looking for community leaders to help provide content and activity on the website. Be one of the first to use the site’s capabilities to help develop your relationships, show your expertise, contribute ideas, network and promote yourself. We encourage you to check out the site and give us your feedback and suggestions.

December in Canada is a special month. It is a time of coming home more than any other month. A time when tasks at the office are put in order, the year is wrapped up, and we share time with our families and friends celebrating Christmas.

No matter what else has happened during the year, Christmas for me has always been a time to be in the moment, especially around my family and friends.  There is no accomplishment, no amount of money, nothing that can replace the Christmas experience composed of wonderful moments and feelings.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the same experience around Christmas.  Many people are stressed out stretched between work-life demands, something that I personally know all too well.  Others carry painful memories of personal tragedies that happened around Christmas. Yet others are reminded of the dream life that continues to elude them.

To these souls I offer encouragement to be gentle on themselves, to put aside guilt feelings, sad moments of the past, fears, judgments and other barriers stopping them from being in the moment and enjoying the seasons powerful energy. I encourage you to share in the warm, friendship, faith, hope and charity that surrounds the season by shifting the focus away from you and what you don’t have to what you do have as part of a wonderful community and friends.  Remember you live in one of the world’s largest cities, at a time where technology has brought us closer together than ever before. So, why not take advantage of this and say hello to the person behind you on the escalator or buy the person behind you in the coffee shop lineup a coffee.

As humans we’re undeniably connected regardless of our beliefs, race, colour, sexual orientation an anything else we may have developed since our birth.  So, let’s reach out during the holiday season and make new friends, reinforce existing friendships and just be human in the moment with other humans.  You just may surprise yourself.

Remember to take personal time for perspective, to remember your life dreams and goals and to plot your journey for the upcoming year.

To all MetroActive members, friends, acquaintances and people I’m yet to meet … have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
